Volunteer Services
The volunteers at Hospice & Palliative Care of Kodiak do not consider helping others or giving of themselves to be anything extraordinary, but rather a way of life. Many of them have personal experience with illness, death and grief, and they know how difficult it can be. They also know how much lighter the load can feel if others come alongside, helping to make the journey more manageable.
Each volunteer brings a unique combination of interests, skills and experience to our organization. Some work directly with clients and families, others provide support services, work on special projects such as event planning or provide community education. Whatever your gifts are; we will find a way for you to help.

Direct Care Volunteer
21.0 hr Required Training
Offer friendship, socialization, respite care and non-medical support to individuals, their caregivers and other family members. This is based on the client’s plan of care through life- threatening illness, death and bereavement. Provides non-medical practical assistance to clients and their families at the client’s residence (including assisted living residences, long term care or hospital).
Indirect Care Volunteers
8.0 hr Required Training
Support events, clients & families by coordinating and/or facilitating support to promote our organization and its services to the community. Assist with a variety of tasks at the HPCK Office. This work includes writing thank you cards, Bereavement mailings, and assistance w/ Data Entry tasks, website support and other duties as assigned.
General Volunteer
Support both HPCK staff and Indirect Volunteers in coordinating events, fundraising, and/or promotion of our organization and its services to the community.

Bereavement Volunteer
21.0 hrs Required Training
Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Director, assist with providing support services to families after the death of their loved one. This could include participating in facilitating meals for families, funeral assistance if desired, encouragement and keeping contact with them for 13 months. Hospice also has a bereavement support group that is led by our Clinical Director for families who would like to attend support groups through their grief process.
