Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does an online auction work? A: We will be using Charity Auctions Today to host our online auction. They have a great user-face and the ability for people to see how much the organization is raising as the bidding occurs! For the bidders, it’s worthwhile and exciting knowing you’re getting something really special and unique while also supporting a worthy cause. Text alerts and other helpful features make this one of the best auction softwares out there.

Q: What kind of items are you looking for? A: We are humbled by anything local businesses are able to provide us, but if you’d like some ideas, we’re looking for experiences, gifts, and food/dessert that would make great holiday gifts and/or help take the stress out of holiday celebrations. Fun kid experiences like a fire truck ride, boxes of seafood, decadent Yule Log cakes, holiday gift baskets, local art and goods are all WONDERFUL.

Q: I’m a baker, how does a decadent dessert auction work online? A: We suggest submitting a favorite holiday/ decadent dessert that you wouldn’t mind baking sometime between Nov-January. Thanksgiving pies, Christmas cookie platters, festive Christmas cakes, etc. If not already stated in the item description (i.e. “Thanksgiving Day Apple Pie”), the winning bidder will coordinate a delivery date with you.

Q: Why should I give to HPCK? A: We are a volunteer lead, nonprofit organization with a BIG heart and mission. Our goal is to ensure that no one dies or grieves alone on Kodiak Island. We offer hospice services, palliative care, grief support, and community education. We receive all of our funding from community giving and regional grants. When you become a HPCK Partner, you are truly making an impact. We couldn’t do it without the businesses and individuals who support us.

“During our time of bringing my sister home and loving her until she left us, our volunteer was a support and ultimately a friend. I cannot begin to imagine traveling this path without her expert guidance.” - HPCK Client Family Member
